Desmond Edward played college
soccer at the University of
Greenwich, London England, where
he graduated. He has over 40
years experience of playing and
coaching soccer.
Coach Edwards is a United States Soccer Federation “A” license coach. He is a former Head Men’s Coach at the famed Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA.
Desmond has been at SMYSA for nearly 14 years and has won many championships including Classic!, the Atlanta Cup, and been a State Finalist twice.
He is a former Assistant Coach at the St. Pius High Scholl State Championship winning team in Atlanta.
He was the former National Director of Coaching at the nationally acclaimed Soccer In the Streets.
Desmond’s coaching approach follows the TIPS approach to coaching.
T. Soccer players should be taught and able to implement sound technique.
I. They should have good game insight or game reading ability (tactics).
P. Players should have a soccer personality i.e. they can adapt to the specific demands that are imposed on them on the soccer field.
S. Finally, they should possess speed (soccer speed), physical and mental.
His motto for soccer players is: “if in doubt, put the team first”.
